A swimming pool grotto or cave is basically a concrete room attached to the pool. The walls and the roof are constructed of gunite or shot-crete. There are special engineering requirements for construction of a swimming pool cave. Grottos may include a bench or loveseat where you can sit and view the water falling in front of you. They can also feature fiber-optic lighting, a sound system, and hydrotherapy jets.

A typical “swim-in grotto” costs $10,000, which includes installation of a foundation to support that rock weight. There is a cheaper option: A rock waterfall without a grotto can cost$3,000 to $4,000 since the water can just be cascaded over the rock.
