Fire pits and fireplaces can be the center of your outdoor entertaining area. It’s a perfect place where friends and family gather to eat, drink, and socialize all year long. The right design can be a beautiful focal point if your outdoor space is lacking that something special. The question is whether to opt for a fireplace or a fire pit?
Fireplaces can be more elaborate and larger and even add more privacy from neighbors depending on where it is built. They typically only seat 4 to 6 people at a time all facing the hearth which makes for a more intimate setting. Built-in fireplaces definitely offer an extra boost of aesthetic appeal that a free-standing fire pit won’t. Installing one will also add value to your outdoor living space and home.
Fire Pits are smaller structures that don’t block any views. They can easily entertain 10 to 12 people sitting in a circle, facing each other which encourages more conversation and more of a social gathering. Fire pits come in many shapes and sizes. There are also fire bowls that come in a variety of materials — copper or stainless steel bowls are usually lighter, but heavier cast iron bowls also do a nice job of radiating heat. Fire tables are similar to bowls, but are often made at coffee table height.
On the plus side, both structures provide a visual focal point while giving off warmth and light. They also allow homeowners to use their back yards more often.
