Butler Project
The Ultimate At-Home Resort, Which Has Almost Everything a Homeowner Could Ask for in an Outdoor Room
The beauty of a luxury swimming pool design lies in its ability to blend with the surrounding environment and architectural style of the home—and landscaping plays a key role in achieving that balance. The pool, even as the focal point, is only a small part of the overall design and ambiance of the backyard. It is the plants, lighting, water features, firepits, Ramadas and fireplaces that define a space and evoke the emotions felt within those spaces. Unique Company’s Designer, Mike Trail was able to capture all of that with the Butler Project.
Mike built the ultimate at-home resort, which has almost everything a homeowner could ask for in an outdoor room: a Ramada that matched the home, outdoor kitchen, seating areas, outdoor fireplace, spacious deck, water features, and a pool.
“The main structure was created to allow for a truly outdoor room feel and design,” says Trail. “The clients wanted to entertain in a way that would not be compromised simply because it was outdoors. Whether the husband wanted to watch the game with his friends, the wife wanted to enjoy a nice meal outside at the bar, or they wanted to enjoy a good movie with the fireplace roaring, they wanted to be able to do all of those activities in one general area in their own backyard.”
The clients wanted to upgrade their existing pool. The plaster interior of the pool was removed and new interior was added to give it that sparkling clean look. A Baja step was added and benches for their dogs. Also added was an additional step for access in and out of the pool and 3 deck jet water features. The spa was removed to increase the decking area. The old Kool Deck was removed and updated and increased the decking footprint to be all Travertine – Versailles pattern. The gorgeous Ramada was designed to match the home and featured precast columns and the corrugated roof edge overhangs the fascias by a few inches. Underneath the Ramada sits an amazing stacked stone fireplace that connects to a counter that has a kitchen sink. The counter wraps around to the other side of the Ramada which has a built in BBQ and then turns into the bar seating area with designer bar stools. To top off this amazing backyard low and high voltage lighting was added to give it that perfect ambiance in the evenings.
